October 2013 Newsletter

October is Mental Health Month with the theme of "Kindness: little acts, big impacts!" When we practice kindness in our daily lives even the smallest act can make a real difference to the health and well being of ourselves and those around us. As Charles Dickens said -
"No one is useless in the world who lightens the burden of others."

Hot Topics

Our Wednesday Night HOT TOPICS continue fortnigthly in Term 3, from 7 - 8.30pm, here at the Resilience Centre in Epping. These informal evening seminars are designed for the general community to help with some of the challenging issues we face in our lives.

16 October  MENTAL HEALTH SURVIVAL: How to survive the crisis and guide towards healing and growth    Presenter: Alison Lenehan
This presentation will act like a basic first aid guide to mental health. It will help you recognize the symptoms of various mental health problems and help you to provide initial support to someone with mental health issues. This will be of special interest to those working in school, work, welfare and church environments as well as concerned family members.

30 October MINDFULNESS SKILLS Presenter: Gabriel Wong

13 November RESILIENT MUMS: Adjusting to life with young children  Presenter: Ruth Fordyce

27 November OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOURS: Information for sufferers and their families Presenter: Adam Wright

Upcoming Programs

We are currently busy planning our programs for 2014.

With our child and adolescent resilience programs, Connect 3 and Link3d Up full in Term 4 and many on a waiting list, we suggest you register you're interest now, if you haven't already done so, rather than wait till the 2014 dates are advertised.

Early in 2014 we plan to offer a program for 5 - 7year olds to help with emotion regulation and control.  It would be practical and skills based, teaching children how to identify triggers for anger, anxiety, frustration and then how to process these triggers without becoming overwhelmed. A parent talk without children would form the first week of the program.  Details of this program are not yet on our website but if you might be interested in such a program email robyn@theresiliencecentre.com.au, expressing your interest.

Join us on facebook and receive a regular reminder about each of our Hot Topics.

Cheers

Lyn & the Team
