About the Workshop

This is an advanced level workshop taking an in-depth look at solution-focused conversations, and would be applicable to anyone using the solution focused approach in any setting. The primary focus will be using microanalysis of face-to-face dialogue to explore conversation and identify what works in creating change. We will discuss an overview of communication components (questions, etc.), myths of communication, the method of mircoanalysis of face-to-face dialogue, and applying microanalysis to one’s solution focused work. There will be a significant amount of interaction and practice through the day to consolidate learning.

Workshop Objectives:

  • To develop an understanding of solution focused conversations at an advanced level
  • To learn the basics of microanalysis of face-to-face dialogue 
  • To learn the basic components of communication
  • To understand the myths of communication
  • To apply the method of microanalysis to the participants’ work

 

About the Speaker

Professor Sara Smock Jordan is coming from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Sara learnt the craft of solution focused brief therapy from Steve, Insoo, and others in the early days of SFBT in Milwaukee. She has extensive experience in clinical, academic and teaching applications of SFBT. Sara is a past President of the SFBTA and was one of the original board members. Sara is also the current Editor of the Journal of Solution Focused Practices.

M.S., 2003      Purdue University Calumet, Child Development and Family Studies (with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy).
