Rachel has a BA (Psychology & Education) and a MA (Psychology). Her thesis, titled “A New Model of Students’ Perceptions of the Primary School Classroom Emotional Environment”, has already been used for training purposes in Primary and Early Education settings. While studying, she was also working part-time in schools with children aged 5-12 years old. Many of these children had learning differences and/or behavioural issues, so she was working alongside Classroom Teachers, Special Needs Teachers, Principals, Resource Teachers, Educational Psychologists and families. Throughout this time she learnt that children are excellent survivors and will use all the tools they have to make it through each day, picking the most successful strategies as they grow.

Once she finished studying, she taught Psychology and Human Development at Massey University until having two beautiful daughters of her own. Now she’s working on balancing opportunities to work with families and community organisations and being the best mother she can be. Rachel is now a Family and Educational Consultant at Children Who Thrive, and is based in the North Island of New Zealand. Rachel is passionate about every child having the opportunity to become the best version of themselves. She does this by helping the adults in their lives have A-HA! moments that enable better choices to be made. Rachel has had the opportunity of learning from:

Sarah is an occupational therapist (OT) with 15 years experience supporting children and their families. She has worked in private practice for over 10 years and runs workshops for parents and teachers managing meltdowns, anxiety and extra challenging behaviours. As an occupational therapist, thinking about the holistic needs of children and their families, she has an interest in nurturing children’s capacity to thrive and flourish. OT’s support people of all ages to engage in occupational roles that are meaningful to them. Sarah’s interest is in supporting families to be able to engage in activities that give them a sense of satisfaction and fulfil their potential in a way that is meaningful to them. The psychosocial aspect of her practice involves helping parents to better understand their child’s behaviour and think about supporting them when their child’s behaviours are not in line with the best needs for their child’s development.

As an OT Sarah tries to understand behaviours not just as behaviours but consider the child within the roles in their lives that are meaningful to them. The values she holds in her practice are that the work that she does has to fit that child and family. As well as her ongoing training in the field of resilience, Sarah participates regularly in professional development, through mentoring, informal research and courses related to sensory attachment intervention, sensory processing, child and family therapy and other relationship based interventions addressing social emotional needs within a developmental framework.

Zelinda Brown is based in Lismore on the Northern Rivers of NSW. She has had an extensive career having taught from Kinder to Year 12. During her career, Zelinda has had a diverse range of experiences both in the classroom and beyond. She has held school executive positions as well as had significant experience working in Pastoral Care roles in schools as a Head of House and Year Coordinator. She has also had significant experience working with special needs students. Zelinda is presently an Assistant Head of Religion which she combines with her classroom teaching and guest speaking commitments in both resilience and wellness.

Zelinda’s strengths include being a good ‘people person’ and she has a reputation for bringing out the best in students, especially marginalised ones. She also possesses strong communication skills both with students and adults. Zelinda is passionate about building the resilience and well-being of young people in her care and is keen to spread the message and model of The Resilience Doughnut. Catherine (Cay) Camden is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with a Graduate Diploma in Psychology. Cay currently works as a student counsellor at a large secondary college in Sydney’s North. Cay is the Convener of the AIS School Counsellors Education Committee and has been a sessional lecturer at UNSW, in the School of Women’s & Children’s Health since 2002 providing an international web-based program. Cay has also lectured and tutored at USyd & UWS in psychology, sociology, group communication, personality & health, organisational psychology and communication skills training. In addition to her other areas of work, Cay has a mobile counselling practice and rooms at Lane Cove, specialising in grief bereavement, as well as anxiety and depression in children and adolescents. Cay has been a consultant & presenter of The Resilience Doughnut since its inception, offering topics related to resilience and well being to 1000’s of parents and students over NSW and WA.

Previously, Cay was a senior social worker in paediatric palliative care/bereavement, at The Children’s Hospital, Westmead, focusing on grief and bereavement counselling and program formation for individuals, families and groups. Cay won a large Federal Government Grant to promote communication skill training among professionals working with children who were terminally ill. This education program was well received in Australia, New Zealand and New York. Cay moved on to be a primary school counsellor, in the Diocese of Broken Bay covering 6 primary schools on the North Shore. Here Cay facilitated The Cool Kids Program; Chilled; 1-2-3 Magic; Stop, Think, Do; Seasons for Growth; Seeing Red; Friends for Life; Get Lost Mr. Scary and lastly, The Resilience Doughnut Program. Cay strongly believes current research has shown that mutual aid group programs covering topics like anger management, anxiety, depression, grief, and resilience-building, produce healthier psychologically adaptive, positive children, who as a result, then learn better.

Alison is based in Lisbon, Portugal and works throughout Europe delivering a range of training, coaching and cross-cultural services to the International community. Alison is a highly experienced psychotherapist and coach with a background in working with international schools, expatriate parents and their children. The focus of her work has been maintaining and building the resilience of each member of the family as they navigate all the emotional and practical transitions involved in moving country. She is the founder of www.TransCulturalCoaching.com and leads our work with International & Boarding Schools in Europe.

Alison has spent the last 14 years enabling people and organisations, across all sectors, to survive and ultimately thrive through periods of change and transition. She holds both a Bachelors and Masters Degree from De Montfort University and is a qualified coach and transactional analyst psychotherapist. Prior to training as a psychotherapist, Alison spent 15 years in the IT industry as a business executive and manager. As well as being a professional in this area, Alison has first hand experience of being an expatriate mother. She has lived in England, Scotland and Portugal and has worked throughout Europe and in the USA.

Suzanne is a qualified teacher and senior school leader with over 20 years experience in the South West of the UK in Dorchestor. Suzanne is a licensed trainer for The Resilience Doughnut and this includes specialising in developing resilience in schools and education and also reducing anxiety in young people. Following 10 years of ICT project management in the logistics sector, Suzanne qualified as a teacher in 2003 and has worked in education at a senior level with a wide variety of pastoral and academic responsibilities. She lives in a village in the South West of England, with her husband, 2 daughters, 2 rescue cats and 4 rescue chickens. She is also kept busy with riding her horse as well as writing her first collection of poems.

Suzanne is passionate about developing the skills in young people to cope, thrive and flourish, both in day-to-day life and when faced with challenging times. She believes that prevention is better than cure, and offers a service to schools and communities which is solution-focused and strengths-based, rather than a sticking plaster to use when things aren’t working out. The Resilience Doughnut model matches her values and provides a holistic tool to use in educational and community settings, alongside her training and educational consultancy work. Suzanne is a Level 2 Licensed Trainer with The Resilience Doughnut, and offers workshops and programmes in the South West to support children and adolescents in developing their resilience.

After her graduation from university, Erica spent the next 20 years working in the communication industry as a producer and presenter on Channel Seven’s Sydney Weekender, as well as hosting her own radio shows both in Sydney and Melbourne. During this time, Erica developed a passion for understanding ‘what great communication looks like’ and how it affects our level of resilience, as well as our mental health and emotional wellbeing. Erica spent over a year researching and developing a series of workshops to present in schools and workplaces, under her own business model – ‘Communication Generation’.

Erica then went on to study The Resilience Doughnut (Child & Adolescent Model) under Lyn Worsley from The Resilience Centre and believes the model, with its strengths based approach and validated research, is an amazing resource to help children and adolescents build resilience and to thrive in everyday life. Erica is now a licensed trainer for The Resilience Doughnut and she based on the NSW Central Coast with her family. She is available to travel extensively to present, facilitate and train in events for students, parents and teachers about building their resilience in both schools and workplaces across Australia.

Davide is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with post-graduate qualifications in Social Work and Psychology. He has experience working in both private practice and the non-government sector since 2010. Davide is also an Accredited Family Group Conference Facilitator and Family Therapist with expertise working with individuals who have experienced trauma and trauma-related stress and anxiety. Davide holds a unique role at The Resilience Centre specifically assisting separated families with court related matters and family relationships post-separation.

Davide uses an integrative approach in his practice, drawing on various techniques, which include: solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) within a strength-based approach, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Trauma-focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Davide is fluent in Italian, which is a valuable tool in working with cross-cultural clients. He is highly involved in developing and running various group programs for all ages, especially for families who are separating or separated so they can function cooperatively.

Mirella is a health professional, facilitator, stakeholder engagement and change management specialist, with more than 25 years of experience in working in and/or consulting with government, not for profit and the private sector on projects spanning various industries and a wide range of people from diverse professional, social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Mirella has a passion for ensuring that the impacts on individuals or groups is considered first when planning any changes in community lives or when there is a need to act reactively to events that impact on communities. She considers one of her particular skills is her ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life and ages, to ensure people feel valued in the interactions that she has with them, by role modelling a strength based approach in her facilitation style. Mirella is known for her passion about educating, involving and influencing people.

Mirella has delivered a variety of training over her career, including cross cultural communication, disability awareness and career visioning sessions and been involved in many organisational change and community change projects. As a consequence, she has become a passionate advocate of imparting information and skills that will ensure more resilient children, adults and communities. Mirella has tertiary qualifications in Applied Science, Marketing and Organisational Behaviour and Change Management. She is also an experienced facilitator and mediator. Outside of work Mirella takes time out challenging her creative talents, volunteering, travelling in her camper trailer with her partner and two border collies and spending time with her nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mirella is based in Sydney and the NSW South Coast and is available to travel for workshops about resilience across Australia.

Kia ora & Hello from Lynley! Lynley lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband and three teenage children and she is fortunate to live close to the beach and loves being able to enjoy the wonderful lifestyle on the North Shore of NZ. She is a specialist teacher with post graduate qualifications in education & psychology and has spent the last decade supporting students, families and teachers across a wide range of contexts and diversity of learning and behavioural needs. Lynley has delivered English as a second language programme in a primary school, taught students with high and complex needs who receive ORS funding and, for the last four years, supported students and teachers across a range of schools as a Resource Teacher for Learning and Behaviour (RTLB).

Recently, Lynley has established her own business supporting families and children to discover and build on their strengths to enable life-long learning. This brings together her energy, passion and knowledge of wellbeing science, positive education and best practice in teaching and learning. She has been privileged to work with many people; the children she has taught, the families that she has supported and the teachers that she has worked alongside taught her that connecting people to the strengths in themselves and resources around them is the foundation of resilience and flourishing. Lynley says the essence of a strength-based approach is captured beautifully by Glinda in The Wizard of Oz – “You’ve always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself”. In a previous career, she worked in banking and private investment management, both in the retail and corporate sectors, before having a family of her own. Lynley is thrilled to now be part of The Resilience Doughnut international family.

Ruth is now based in Orange NSW (formally from Sydney) and is available for to be a speaker locally as well as all across Australia. Ruth works closely with Lyn Worsley on various projects for The Resilience Doughnut and she has a wealth of experience presenting an extensive range of talks, seminars and workshops to parents, students, teachers and practitioners across Australia. Ruth is a popular presenter, facilitator and trainer due to her engaging, relatable and dynamic style of presenting.

For the past seven years, Jair has divided his time between working in the education system as a School Psychologist and counselling in private practice. Jair is passionate about working alongside young people and their families to help them overcome difficulties in a more constructive way, so they can move forward to rich and fulfilling lives as a result. He believes that by reaching out to our communities with practical interactive models of resilience like The Resilience Doughnut, we can empower people for positive change that is sustainable overtime and not just a quick fix.

Jair works primarily from a Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) perspective, having completed accredited training with Dr Russ Harris, CBT Australia, The Beck Institute, and The Albert Ellis Institute. As a public speaker, he has experience presenting to small, medium and large groups, as well as with audiences of young people,
their parents, and fellow education and health professionals. He is also an accredited trainer in the 1-2-3 Magic and Emotion Coaching (Parenting Strategies with Children 2-12 Years Old) Program.

Rebecca is a Registered Psychologist based in Northern Sydney and she works with children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Her key interests include supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and those with a complex trauma background. She believes in a holistic and systemic approach to supporting children and their families. Rebecca has extensive experience providing training to staff and parent groups, and she enjoys focusing and building on existing strengths within networks. She regularly facilitates parenting groups, as well as sibling support and education programs.

Rebecca recently developed a stress and coping group program for adults with a mild intellectual disability. Her application of The Resilience Doughnut model contributes to the practical way that she supports individual and their family growth. Rebecca currently works for a non-government organisation in Sydney’s North West, providing behaviour support, individual therapy and group programs to people with an intellectual disability, their families and support staff. She prefers a solution-focused approach in counselling and she uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, acceptance and mindfulness and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Rebecca’s approach is adaptable, non-directive and client-focused.

Jenny has worked as a Registered Nurse her health care career in the areas of Emergency Nursing and Surgical Nursing, with Palliative Care Nursing being her area of focus over the last 20 years. For the last 4 years, she has also worked as a nurse educator and nurse student assessor/mentor for TAFE. After many years of working in the health care sector, she is passionate about building resilience in people working in potentially stressful areas of human services delivery and helping them to avoid burnout and vicarious trauma.

Jenny holds a Graduate Certificate in Human Services Practice, including professional supervision from UTAS. Jenny’s speciality is presenting The Resilience Doughnut to seniors and elderly in our population and she is well liked and well received due to her warmth, humour and engagement, as well as the practical interactive nature of her presentations that are easy to understand as a result of her background in Nursing. Jenny loves to relax with a good book, loves to dance and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Claire lives out West in Perth, Western Australia and she is the mother of 4 dynamic boys and takes the business of social emotional well-being very seriously, knowing that it is the foundation to raising a happy and successful child, who is then a part a happy and successful family. She qualified as a Speech Pathologist in the early 1990’s and since that time has progressively re-qualified in mental health, with an emphasis on social emotional well-being and resilience. Claire has worked with Australia’s leading Social Emotional Learning school-based program provider, passionately educating teachers, parents and children and adolescents on how to look after and build a strong and resilient base from which to springboard into life.

Claire believes that developing knowledge through fun, engaging and practical teaching methodologies gives people power to work, act and connect differently and far more powerfully in all aspects of their lives. She also works in private practice as an Educational Consultant, Professional Counsellor and Parenting Coach. The Resilience Doughnut has become a firm favourite of her’s for working with children and families, teachers and allied health professionals in understanding the internal and external factors contributing to the development of resilience. Claire speaks in schools, community groups and conferences across the state of Western Australia on all aspects of social emotional well-being and is passionate about introducing people to the simplicity, sense and applicability of The Resilience Doughnut.

Fran is a Registered Psychologist who has experience working in both the school and private practice settings. She is currently based in Canberra where she enjoys working with children and families to help identify their personal strengths and resources to navigate and negotiate with their surroundings. Fran completed her registration internship with Lyn Worsley at The Resilience Centre and has experience running parent talks, group programs as well as assisting Lyn with the Licensed Training in both Australia and overseas. Fran is able to run speaking events for parents, school staff and mental health workers, as well as facilitate group programs for children, adolescents and adults.

Kia ora from Aotearoa. Originally from the UK, Ara now calls Auckland home where she lives with her husband and three children. As a qualified NZ & UK educator and facilitator, Ara currently works across the education sector with children, young people, families, professionals (teachers, psychologists, social workers) and schools from primary right through to secondary. She is also an accredited Ministry of Education (NZ) professional learning development facilitator. Ara has extensive experience in working in and with diverse communities. Of South Asian heritage, her work considers a culturally responsive approach that supports the best possible outcomes for children and young people. Ara also heads up Flourishing Minds which was set up to respond to the wellbeing needs she was seeing in schools and their respective communities. She works with both school staff, children, young people and whanau.

Ara sees resilience as a key part of her mahi/work. Being able to walk alongside and intentionally provide tools to be able to support any individual/s to be able to understand and manage their own wellbeing through out their lives, and in a way that makes sense in their world view, is a gift that we should all have access to. “Other people matter” is one of her favourite quotes from the arena of wellbeing science and something that drives Ara’s own meaning and purpose around what she does. Also a strong advocate for positive mental health, Ara is a trained first aider for Mental Health. Ara is currently working towards her CAPP (Certificate Applied Positive Psychology) before she pursues her PHD. She holds a variety of qualifications that includes an MA (Hons) Education. Ara is also a Pause, Breathe, Smile certified Educator which is the only NZ evidence based Mindfulness programme currently.

During his work, he regularly witnessed how the demands on individuals negatively impacted their mental health and himself experienced poor mental health. He now supports organisations, particularly those in the charity sector, as well as individuals, to develop their skills around mental health and to reduce stigma and discrimination in the workplace. In 2018 Adrian moved to delivering the MHFA training full time and is approved to deliver the full suite of Adult and Youth MHFA courses. He is passionate about the topic and has trained over 2000 delegates so far.

Alongside this Adrian delivers ‘Lived Experience’ talks for organisations on his own journey with mental ill health. As a mindfulness practitioner Adrian has recognised and utilised the practice of mindfulness to support his own wellbeing and draws on the skills gained to support others in their journey of wellness. Adding to his repertoire of offerings, Adrian is now also a Licensed Trainer for The Resilience Doughnut and he is available for talks and workshops within his area in the south east of the UK. Adrian advocates that both self-care and a strong understanding of the risk factors for poor mental health are key to thriving in all areas of life and work. This, in tandem with education around mental health and resilience, is essential to reducing stigma and discrimination. This ethos carries into his personal life where he manages his own mental wellness through running; he has now completed 75 marathons or ultra-marathons including the challenge of running 52 of them in 52 weeks!

Throughout his career, Sal has held diverse leadership roles, including Head of Year, Head of House and most recently Head of Wellbeing & Personal Development. In these capacities, he has been entrusted with overseeing pastoral care and leading the design, development and delivery of comprehensive wellbeing education programs to students, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff.

A passionate advocate for Positive Education, Sal has dedicated himself to promoting and implementing strength-based approaches aimed at fostering resilience and maximising individual potential. His expertise in this field has led him to present at various conferences hosted by the Positive Education Schools Association (PESA), where he shares insights and best practices with fellow educators. As a member of the PESA Victorian Team Chapter, Sal remains at the forefront of the Positive Education movement, championing the belief that every individual possesses innate potential and a natural inclination to flourish. He firmly believes that education holds the key to unlocking this potential and empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives.

Beyond his contributions to education and wellbeing, Sal is a Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor, demonstrating his commitment to supporting the mental health and resilience of young people. Additionally, he is a level 2 Tennis Australia coach, finding joy in both playing and coaching the sport in his spare time. Lastly, he is now a Licensed Trainer for The Resilience Doughnut and he is keen to add the model to his tool kit, to build the resilience of children, adolescents and adults, especially across the Victoria region. Currently serving as Director of Aspire Wellbeing Education, Sal and his team are dedicated to delivering evidence-based preventive and intervention-based wellbeing education. Through his leadership and vision, Sal continues to inspire others to live their best lives, equipped with the tools and knowledge to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Jacqui has more than 30 years experience in education, wellbeing, mental health and community engagement in both a professional and volunteer capacity. She has an extensive range of professional experience working in, and continuing to work across, a variety of business, education and community contexts, all across Australia, New Zealand, the EU, Singapore and North America.

With a natural tendency towards strengths based techniques and solution focused approaches, Jacqui is a passionate trainer, facilitator, speaker and advocate. Her areas of specialty are for resilience through practise and research, parent and family engagement with education, positive growth outcomes in schools, professional learning networks and continuing education in the workplace, wellbeing, veteran health community and advocacy.

Kylie’s focus is in communications and how this affects key attributes such as leadership, team dynamics, relationships and productivity within a team. She is one of our main resilience trainers at The Resilience Centre and she passionate about The Resilience Doughnut model, believing it is a fresh invaluable tool to teach us something new, simple and highly relevant to our everyday relationships, both in work and life, outside of work. Kylie is keen to share this model for teams, schools and businesses to develop overall resilience in any team setting, including schools and businesses. She has has worked extensively with schools (both primary and secondary) facilitating for staff, parent and community members, contributing to a whole school approach.

She believes The Resilience Doughnut is an invaluable support for building personal and professional resilience and as a parent herself, she shares practical strategies to help build strong and resilient children and families. Kylie is also the Lead Trainer with Teamology, a training organisation based in Sydney. Kylie’s previous roles have been as Rehabilitation Manager, managing teams of rehabilitation professionals in Injury Management. Kylie is also the author of The Enlightened Communicator and is a member of ASORC – Member of MBA (Corporate Trainers mentoring program). Kylie is based in South Sydney with her family and she travels locally as well as throughout Australia delivering a variety of training programs to teams, schools, agencies and businesses.

Megan is a Psychologist who works at The Resilience Centre and she has presented a variety of workshops at The Resilience Centre to children, adolescents, parents, and other general audiences of adults. Megan has also assisted our director Lyn at workshops with professionals across the fields of Psychology, Education and Health.

With a background as a Clinical Psychologist and a Registered Nurse also, her experience in a number of contexts such as hospitals, correctional facilities, child care, schools and allied health care services, informs her application of the model. She is a dynamic teacher and engaging psychologist with a practical edge to her use of research and theory when she is presenting, facilitating and/or training. Training, as well as therapy, are key strengths for Lyn, working with over 200 schools, business, corporate and community organisations to build resilience, personally and/or professionally, helping people to flourish and thrive through adversities.

In her role as the Director of The Resilience Centre in Sydney Australia, Lyn, along with a team of Psychologists, strive to achieve a reputation for innovative strengths-based and solution-focused approaches to client change through individual therapy and group programs for over 25 years. In her roles at The Resilience Centre, Lyn supervises specialist psychologists and coordinates resilience groups, community seminars and training workshops for people of all ages. Lyn has a dynamic style of relating and teaching across disciplines, and her teaching focus is on personal application to enhance learning. She is also the author of two resilience books – “The Resilience Doughnut Book – The Secret of Strong Kids” and “The Resilience Doughnut Book – The Secret of Strong Adults”.

Neil’s most recent school role was as College Principal at Northern Beaches Secondary College the largest school in NSW, working across five campuses with a team of principals and over 370 teachers. This experience has further developed Neil’s expertise in school organisation and processes as well as his significant understanding of teaching and learning in primary schools. For over three years Neil was seconded to work with leaders and teams in all public schools across New South Wales with the aim of building school excellence, school and leadership capacity, to assist school planning and leadership coaching. Additionally, to increase his knowledge of educational practices, Neil has spent time in schools in the United Kingdom, in California and Georgia in the United States, Nova Scotia in Canada and in schools across Finland. He has also has had significant dialogue with and hosted visiting educators from Japan, China, Finland, Scotland, Canada, USA, New Zealand, Netherlands and the ACT.

Neil’s professional interests include constantly exploring better ways to meet student needs and raise expectations, student wellbeing and resilience, using evidence to improve school processes, methodology and outcomes, developing school networks, partnerships and improving pedagogy. Neil has considerable experience over the past 20 years in the practical and ground breaking application of Positive Psychology into varied school settings in order to bring about measured changes in student resilience, staff wellbeing and the creation of positive school environments. A particular interest of Neil’s is to enhance the professional growth and development of teachers and to build school capacity by developing aspiring leaders and whole school approaches through applying solution focused psychology to coaching, mentoring and the many other conversations across school communities. In response to specific needs and requests, Neil provides keynote addresses on The Resilience Doughnut and the Resilience Report for all schools – local, regionally, nationally and internationally. He develops and presents teacher and school leadership training and professional learning materials and events for both small and large school group settings as well as coaching and mentoring teachers and school leaders.
