The Maudsley Model of family based treatment is an outpatient treatment that involves the whole family working together for 9-12 months to defeat the Anorexia the young person is experiencing. It is suitable for young people who have short course of illness (less than 3 years) and are under 19 years of age. The Maudsley model has 3 clearly defined phases.

Phase 1: 10 weekly family therapy sessions, aimed at re feeding the client
Phase 2: 6 fortnightly family therapy sessions, aimed at helping the Adolescent to gain control
Phase 3: 4 monthly family therapy sessions,
In order to book into the clinic, you need to attend an initial assessment and then secure a therapist for the duration of the therapy. Initial assessments are conducted on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. These initial assessments are in addition to the three phases of treatment. Prior to the initial assessment, you will need to have a medical assessment with your referring GP.

At the initial assessment, the therapy process will be explained to you and you will be required to sign a contract to begin therapy.
The costs of the treatment are claimable with Medicare under a mental health care plan or with selected private health providers.
