HOT TOPICS - Wednesday Nights

These informal evening seminars for the general community, are presented by our experienced psychologists. They provide psychological insights into a variety of challenging life issues.

WHERE: The Resilience Centre, 4th Floor, 51 Rawson St, Epping

WHEN: 7.00 - 8.30 pm. Please arrive at 6.45 pm if you have not pre-registered.

COST: $30 per person, $50 for two people.

Presenter: Joe Alberts

Anger is a natural adaptive response to threats. It allows us to fight and defend ourselves when we are attacked. Anger becomes a problem when it creates trouble for you with other people, your work, your health, day to day living, or the law.

Anger is also a problem when other people around you are frightened, hurt or feel they cannot talk to you in case you become angry. (APS website)

In this seminar: 

  • Learn about the neurophysiology of the anger response
  • Identify your triggers and early warning signs of anger
  • Learn techniques to calm down before the situation gets out of control
  • Practice better ways of expressing anger if necessary.

JOE is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience in the public and private sectors. His areas of interest include the treatment of stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties in adults and men's issues. 


Presenter: Adam Wright 

Whether it's work, school or home, being productive is an important part of daily living. However low motivation, procrastination and perfectionism can all become strong barriers to getting things done.

This seminar will: 

  • Explain the psychology behind motivation and what stops us from being our most productive
  • Explore how perfectionism and procrastination become barriers and contribute to stress
  • Provide strategies to understand and overcome perfectionism and procrastination to get more done.  

ADAM is a  registered clinical psychologist and has experience working in private, community and hospital settings. Aam works with adults, adolescents and children and likes to use a solutions and strengths focus to help people to connect with and move towards meaningful goals and positive life changes.

27 JUNE  SCREENING OUT: Managing digital media to be socially savvy

Presenter: Lyn Worsley

This HOT TOPIC will focus on aspects of healthy social and emotional development that help us in our relationships both now and in the future.

In the seminar learn: 

  • Skills in managing digital media to become more socially savvy and connected
  • To discern times when screening out can be helpful 
This seminar is for people of all ages who want to have better relationships, but the screens are getting in the way.

LYN is a clinical psychologist and Director of The Resilience Centre with a background in nursing, teaching and youth work. She specializes in child, adolescent and family psychology and relationship issues. She is the author of two books, The Resilience Doughnut - The Secret of Strong Kids and The Resilience Doughnut - The Secret of Strong Adults
